Very few people would be able to honestly admit that they have never contemplated being their own boss and owning their own business. A simple search on the internet will show you hundreds of reports, eBooks, courses, programs and tools, all targeted at that goal. A high number of these programs and courses are not worth the time it takes to fill out their web form. On the other hand, there are some out there that do in fact offer excellent work at home training to people that want to start their own online business.

The problem that someone new to the online business world runs into is a lack of training. Most have no clue as to the skills and funding that are required to successfully launch a home based business. Often they hear of one side such as having a product to sell and possibly even a web site thrown in as a bonus.

What they don’t hear about is…

  • Finding the right hosting service provider
  • Building, editing and maintaining a website or blog
  • Implementing SEO on a website or blog
  • Traffic generation – If no one sees it – how can you sell to them
  • Advertising costs
  • Autoresponders

 

This is just an example of the various fields of knowledge someone doing business online might need to know and is by no means all inclusive. Once these skills are learned, you would further develop your knowledge in each area.

The key difference between someone who will succeed in an online business and someone who will fail, is that the successful person will recognize the need for work at home training. And not just any training either, but training that introduces them to the total picture. Training that outlines the various basic skills they will either need to personally develop or outsource to find.

Because of the diversity of skills needed, you may find that even with a top-notch work at home training program, you are still not proficient in some areas.

Some will stumble over anything to do with web page or web site design, but will find they are highly skilled in writing effective articles, posts and ads. Others will have an artistic bent that allows them to easily design graphics and headers, but will be unable to make heads or tails out of, or just plain dislike the process of building back links to their website. And then there is social media. Oh, don’t get me going on social media. Personally I can code a web page in notepad, but I am a total dork at social media.

Often you will hear recommendations that areas you are weak in should be outsourced. However, before you do any outsourcing, you need to learn the fundamentals of those areas first. How else are you going to be able to recognize if the person doing the work for you is providing you with what you need instead of ripping you off?

That new gadget everyone is drooling over may just be the greatest thing since sliced bread. That eBook you received 40+ emails on may contain a map to endless riches. None of them do you a lick of good if you don’t have a foundation of the basic online business building skills and fundamentals to work with.

You wouldn’t apply for a job as an accountant if you’d never learned basic mathematics. If you did, you wouldn’t be surprised if you were not successful. And yet, folks all over the globe are quite willing to throw away here and there on the latest online fad that they won’t know what to do with once they have it. And they will continue to jump from one guru’s product to another until they understand that they are only getting bits and pieces of the puzzle instead of the whole picture.

Don’t get caught up in this eternal circle that keeps you from succeeding. Stop throwing good money after bad and invest in learning the basics of how to market your business online with some quality work at home training.

In my travels I like to find out new things and learn new things. And especially in this putrid economy with the devastating recession still digging its heels in deeper and deeper everyday there’s no reason to quit learning about new ways to make money which work even in this economy.

Lots of people out there and maybe even those you’ve talked to may have told you there’s nothing on the Internet except scams and con men. There are scams espically when it comes to leraning how to make money.

-Chain mail letters where people send me if I only send them first.

-Some Nigerian scams say a relative I never knew left me million and all I had to do was send them my Social Security Number.

This kind of hype and these ridiculous claims are too far gone to be believable.

Handling the Pages Linked From Your Article Syndication Content

I recently wrote about the difficulty we face in attempting resolve a contradiction in content syndication.  Here’s the issue boiled down to its core: Readers of our articles are still in the early part of the information gathering phase of the purchasing decision continuum.  Yet, because we want our links to optimize our money pages of the sites, the readers’ clicks on our article links will take them to a web page that assumes that they are ready to buy a particular alternative.  In that article, I combined that conflict with another related issue:  With good website design, each page should have a single purpose.  That purpose is to satisfy our visitor’s desire. a prospect to our money (product) page until they already want to go there–in other words, they’re ready to buy.]

Simply bringing the problem to the attention of article marketers was my goal in that previous piece.  Today, I’ll go that one additional step and give one answer to the quandary.

There are actually at least two solutions to the dilemma.  The first option is to ignore the rule of website design for marketing purposes and have our landing pages attempt to offer two different objectives allowing our readers to satisfy their information seeking and provinding an opportunity to buy the product or service from the same page.  Another solution to our dilemma is to include two different kinds of links from our distributed articles.  One link option or type leads to a landing page dedicated entirely to providing valuable information and an opt-in form encouraging the visitor to get even more information by signing up for our list; the other type of link leads to our “money page,” primarily for the purpose of search engine optimization.  Of course we must make clear from the context of the link what the landing page will offer.

When presented with these two options, I recommend the second.  Allow me to elaborate on why I endorse this approach and what the respective landing page for each type of link will contain.

Remember that our distributed article attracted the readers because those readers intended to gather useful information.  The only likely way we are going to attract those readers to our site is to offer them even more information than our article provides.  Of course, we always follow through with our promises or we shall immediately lose credibility.  In order to encourage our readers to actually click our link, we must give them truly interesting and valuable information the first time, while simultaneously leaving them with the impression that there is still more to learn.  We must subtly persuade them that our site will provide all the remaining necessary information, and we make sure that link delivers them to a content page.

We also want to move them along that decision making continuum by implying that there is a product or service that will provide the ultimate solution to their current problem.  By making the implication that our product or service will be their ultimate solution, even after they have gathered all the necessary information, we have justified linking to our product or money page.

It is always easier to logically include both types of links within our articles if we syndicate directly to websites that are within our general niche category; in those cases we can make our links contextual within the article, itself.  However, if we limit our article distribution to article directories, we can still accomplish our task by cleverly using a well written resource box to provide the rationale for linking to both kinds of pages.

On our content landing page, we focus upon bringing our readers much closer to the buying decision end of the decision making continuum.  We have already made progress by getting the readers to click the link in our syndicated article.  We can now treat them as serious prospects and ramp up our selling strategy a bit.  Consequently, we make our link to the actual buying page very prominent on this content page, but we focus primarily on getting them to take one more small step by asking for the contact information in exchange for the promise of even more valuable content. 

In our syndicated article we use our content to sell our expertise.  On the linked page, we’re selling our credibility and integrity.  Once we have their contact information we can begin selling our product, subtly at first and then with increasing urgency.

Remember that the other type of link takes the clicker (or the search engine robot) to our page where we directly sell our product or service.  Since the purpose of that link is primarily search engine optimization, it is especially important that our anchor (linking) text is at once an accurate description of the selling page and a useful long tail keyword with implicit commercial intent.

As marketers, all of our efforts are toward making the sale.  As writers we must make the sale without disrupting the prose of our content.  So our first objective is to convince the article readers that they need more information, and that the necessary information can be found by clicking our link.  Then, with the second link type, we need to convince the search engine spiders that we have provided anchor text that is an accurate name for the content that we have on our selling page to which that link leads.  Thus our anchor text and the landing page content must be very similar.

What Are The Secret MLM Strategies Behind The Success Of Norbert Orlewicz?

Recently, I had the pleasure of doing a live interview with Norbert Orlewicz, where he answered some of the fundamental questions people ask him about his breakthrough experience online.  I wanted to take a minute and report on my experience, for the benefit of anyone who reads this article.  What I’m going to do is give you four tips from the interview that will help you overcome your issues and break through.

Norbert said that hands down THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to understand before you begin your promotion efforts is where your major skill sets lie, and how you can use those in your business marketing strategy.  In other language, where does your real personal power come from in all the success you’ve had in the past?  For example, Norbert Orlewicz shared the fact that for more than five years he struggled offline building his business, whereas when he began marketing online he had a major breakthrough within a couple of months.  Understand, however, that you may not be involved currently in a team that is building with methods that will be effective with your personality, and that may be the major source of much of your frustration.  It’s important to seek prosperity with YOUR skill sets, not someone else’s.

After we talked about core strengths, we had a discussion about how important it is to have a core focus in your marketing efforts, and that you need to not get distracted by engaging in too many promotional activities at the same time.  Norbert shared the insight that the majority of online marketers simply try and market in too many different ways at once, and that there’s no way to do that without meeting with failure.  Mr. Orlewicz gave the example that even though he engages today in most forms of marketing, it’s because now he has the financial resources to outsource it to others.  However, when he started, he just did PPC and Myspace strategies.  (Just as a clarification, Norbert recommended Facebook over Myspace.  He said that in 2009 and beyond it is a better platform for social media, with which I agree.)

The last thing that Norbert Orlewicz shared in his interview is that it’s really important to be consistent in your marketing from day one, or you are going to be frustrated long term.  Too often, people quit the awesome industry of MLM right before they have the breakthrough that they’ve been looking for.  As a sponsor, it’s amazing how some of the most talented, gifted people around miss out on massive financial rewards just because they’re not willing to overcome the hurdles that they face in the beginning of their business.

The way that Norbert voiced it in our interview was that you just never know when your breakthrough will come.  He discussed how two years ago now, he was almost bankrupt he was so broke, but look at him today.  When prosperity finally made it his way, it came in huge waves, FAST, and in a couple of months he was in the top 1% income earners in this industry.  He went from absolute zero to ,000 in his first month.  The success came, he said, because he was willing to learn through the hard times to prosper in the plentiful.  It’s my hope that this information will aid you in becoming yet another breakthrough prosperity story in the MLM profession.

The Most Important Part of Internet Marketing

When you hear the term “internet marketing“, what do you think of?

For many, that term conjures thoughts of websites or spamming or search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. For others, it’s all about graphical design, writing fancy code or even affiliate programs. All of those answers correct, but the essence of internet marketing is much simpler.

At its core, internet marketing is about these things:

* Understanding the target market to which the product/service/cause you’re marketing will appeal
* Determining exactly how your target market interacts with the internet
* Positioning your content on the internet to attract the attention of your target market
* Collecting information about your target market (also known as “leads”) for follow-up and conversion into sales
* Design of offers or incentives to induce the desired actions from your leads

Since there is insufficient space in this article to give all of these topics adequate attention, let’s focus on just one specific topic with the realm of internet marketing: Email Marketing.

My best payoff has always come by focusing on permission-based email marketing. Permission-based email marketing refers to the practice of collecting information (including email addresses) from website visitors and communicating with them via e-mail with their direct consent. The “permission” aspect of permission-based email marketing is what separates legitimate email marketers from the spammers that everyone despises.

My love of email marketing is strong for one reason: It works very well. Email marketing has been much like a never-ending goldmine: It enables us to produce income on demand simply by sending a good offer to our list. When you have thousands of loyal subscribers - as we do - and you put a strong and compatible offer in front of them, income becomes nearly automatic.

However, the key to successful email marketing is the development of a legitimate trust relationship with your subscribers. If you opt to send your subscribers a request for purchases every single day, they will likely tire of your badgering and cease reading your emails altogether.

Alternatively, if you take the time to provide good content to your readers on a regular and frequent basis, you’ll discover that your readers take all of your emails far more seriously, and as a result your emails will be opened, read and acted upon with greater frequency. Essentially, email marketing is really an exercise in trust.

While there are many more aspects to internet marketing than just permission-based email marketing, email has definitely been the cornerstone on which our business is built.
